Meet the Maker: Smith & Poet’s Kate Caicedo
By Jake Harvey
Every piece of jewellery tells a story, but for me, the story often begins long before the first spark from the torch.
I’m Kate, the hands and heart behind Smith & Poet. Jewellery-making is in my blood—my family’s workshop was filled with engraving tools, ring sizers, and the rhythmic sound of hammers on metal. It was here that I learned to respect the craft, the tools, and the time it takes to create something truly lasting.
The name Smith & Poet is my way of honouring both sides of my work: the smith, who uses skill and precision, and the poet, who finds beauty and expression in every curve, texture, and form.
From my Sydney studio, I work with bronze, sterling silver, gold, gemstones, and sometimes even leather. Every piece is stamped with my signature and hallmark—not as a flourish, but as a quiet promise of authenticity and quality.
